How Do
Organizations Matter?

In this inaugural event, SION brings together an
interactive panel of prominent organizational scholars to discuss how
organizations matter in different academic fields, what organizational theory
and research has to offer, as well as the critical issues facing the field.
Speakers
Stephen R. Barley: Charles
M. Pigott Professor of Management Science and Engineering, Stanford
University.
Elisabeth S. Clemens:
Professor
of Sociology and Master of the Social Science Collegiate Division at The
University of Chicago.
Jerry Davis: Wilbur K.
Pierpont Collegiate Professor of Management at the Ross School of Business
and Professor of Sociology, The University of Michigan.
Janet Fulk: Professor of
Communication, Annenberg School for Communication, Professor of Management &
Organization, Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California
Walter W. Powell: Professor
of Education and (by courtesy) Sociology, Organizational Behavior,
Management Science and Engineering, and Communication at Stanford
University.

Program
The format of this symposium is
highly interactive. There are no traditional paper presentations. While each
speaker will present a short perspective on the guiding question, much of the
morning will involve interaction with participants.
