Amnesty International

I've been involved with Amnesty International (AI) for six or seven years now. AI is an human rights organization with over a million members worldwide, working for the freedom of prisoners of conscience (or POC's, an AI term for a specific type of political prisoner), the end of torture and the abolition of the death penalty. I got involved back at Freehold Township High School, under the tutelage of Linda Murchio, and served as an officer in my high school's group. I then served as a Student Group Coordinator, as well as president or treasurer and webmaster for the Amnesty International student group at Rutgers for all four years I spent at Rutgers. This involved organizing meetings, letter writing, teach-in's, tabling around campus and at some concerts, petitioning, organizing trips, attending regional and national conferences, more letter writing, going to some protests, lots of public speaking representing Amnesty all over the place, more letter writing, and lots of other stuff. Right now I'm a member of the University of Edinburgh's student group, although working on my masters doesn't afford me as much time to devote to activism as I would like, and my work with AI has had to be curtailed to a slightly lower level for the time being.

(Use context to determine which AI I'm referring to, Amnesty or artificial intelligence. heh heh).
